My paintings begin without intention. No preliminary sketches, no fixed horizon line, no plan. Just paint, instinct and the freedom to go wherever the work demands.

 

This freedom is deliberate. Like most people, my life is full of demands, commitments and the expectations of

others. The canvas offers something rare, a space entirely my own, where no rules apply and no apology is needed.

 

My paintings are felt rather than observed, translated through gesture and texture rather than careful

representation. The paint is loaded, physical, immediate.

 

I don’t always know what a painting is about until it’s finished. Sometimes not even then.

 

That uncertainty is the point.
